U.S. State Department approves sale of HAWK air defense system to Ukraine

The U.S. Department of State has approved the sale of the HAWK Phase III Sustainment missile system and related logistics and program support elements to Ukraine for $138 million. This was reported by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The Government of Ukraine has issued a request for proposals for the procurement of equipment and services related to the support of the HAWK Phase III missile system, including design, integration, reconstruction and overhaul of systems, certification components, personnel training and other logistics and program support elements.

The Secretary of State justified that an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale of these items and services for the benefit of US national security.

Ukraine is in dire need of means to defend itself against Russian missile attacks and the air capabilities of Russian forces. The HAWK missile system, which provides air defense, is becoming an important element of Ukraine’s air shield.

The Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk noted the successful operation of the HAWK system in the fight against Russian aggression.

HAWK is a medium-range air defense system that provides air defense, which is one of the main security needs of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.

HAWK is already part of Ukraine’s air defense system. Last October, the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk published a video of the HAWK combat operation, noting its “one hundred percent result”.
