European Parliament blocks decision on EU Council budget due to Patriot for Ukraine

The European Parliament has blocked the decision to fund the European Council. The reason was the demand to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems. This was reported by MEP and former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt on Twitter (X).

During a speech in the European Parliament, a member of the Renew faction proposed to remove the decision to adopt the EU Council budget from the agenda until European countries can find additional Patriot missile systems for Ukraine.

Verhofstadt added that EU countries have about a hundred Patriot systems, and Ukraine needs seven such installations. The call of the European MP was supported by 515 parliamentarians, while 62 were against.

“Parliament refuses to implement the Council’s budget until the European Council decides to support Ukraine with additional Patriot missile systems,” Verhofstadt wrote on social media.
