Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv is planning to perform Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin in Germany in 2025.

According to the Saxon State Opera of Dresden, in July 2025, the conductor will perform Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin in Russian.

Oksana Lyniv commented on the preparations for the opera in a Facebook post. She argues that despite the fact that the music of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, and Stravinsky has been stopped in Ukraine since the beginning of martial law, the works of these composers are required in the repertoire of every conductor at the international level.

“The works of these composers belong to the obligatory repertoire of every conductor whose career is developing internationally, because these works belong to the world musical heritage. They are an integral part of the standard repertoire of symphony orchestras and opera houses around the world, and this repertoire was formed hundreds of years ago,” Lyniv said.

At the same time, she noted that through cooperation with leading orchestras and opera houses, Ukrainian conductors can add “little-known Ukrainian composers to the standard repertoire and add these names to the world classical music tradition.”
