How will Ukraine spend Sweden’s assistance in the energy sector and how will Turkey help?

The Swedish government has provided a new aid package for the Ukrainian energy sector. About €42.5 million will be allocated to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine, and almost €12.7 million will be provided through the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the funds will be used to supply energy equipment such as generators and transformers, as well as to restore energy infrastructure in Kharkiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv regions. The main focus will be on ensuring energy supply to critical social infrastructure, such as schools, hospitals, transportation and water supply.

Ukraine also discussed with Turkey cooperation in overcoming the consequences of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, especially in Kharkiv and Odesa regions. Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko emphasized the importance of increasing the flexibility of the energy system and increasing electricity generation capacity, in particular through the development of distributed and mobile generation. The Turkish Ambassador to Ukraine noted that several Turkish companies are ready to participate in the relevant projects.
