The United Kingdom has already provided Ukraine with £3.5 billion (approximately $4.5 billion) for the purchase of modern military equipment from British manufacturers.
To discuss further cooperation with the Ukrainian government and industry representatives, a British trade mission visited Ukraine. The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business and Trade, and the defense association ADS. The head of the mission, Luke Pollard, stated that the UK continues to support Ukraine, not only by supplying military equipment but also by fostering cooperation with Ukraine’s defense industry. This helps attract investments and strengthen the capabilities of both nations.
One of the key agreements reached during this mission was a clear understanding of Ukraine’s needs for complex weapon systems and ground equipment. This served as a “signal” to the British defense industry, which is now preparing to fulfill future orders.
Additionally, the UK Ministry of Defence has signed “several important contracts” with British companies, including Thales for the supply of air defense missiles and Sheffield Forgemasters for manufacturing artillery gun components.
UK’s Assistance to Ukraine
On September 11, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced a new aid package for Ukraine, worth over $780 million.
Earlier, on July 7, the UK announced military assistance to Ukraine, which included precision Brimstone missiles, ammunition, and artillery guns.
Ukraine and the UK also signed an agreement to develop defense capabilities, which involves the supply, repair, and production of weapons.
Recently, it was revealed that the UK will provide Ukraine with 16 AS90 self-propelled artillery units, some of which have already been delivered.
