It turned out that 5.2% of the population of Ukraine (almost 2 million) do not consume meat.
Such data were obtained in the course of a sociological study of the animal protection organization “Vidkritі kіtki Ukraina” and the Kiev International Institute of Sociology.
According to the study, the majority of those who refuse to consume animal products are young people between 18 and 29 years old. In the same age group, more people choose to completely avoid animal products (veganism) than the older generation.
The study showed that already now the number of vegetarians in Ukraine is quite numerous and in the future this trend will only gain momentum, especially among young people. Of course, such figures may be due to economic factors and changes in the agricultural market of the country, but we are sure that the growing awareness of the impact of meat products on health also plays an important role in people’s refusal of meat, – said the public relations manager of “Vіdkritі Klitki LLC Ukraine“, Darina Makhaneva.
Depending on the region, vegetarianism is more popular in the western and central regions of Ukraine. Among those who consume animal products, more than 3 million people deliberately reduce the amount of meat in their diet.
